Happily Married ~ Love Poem

Happily Married by Joe Reid Kirby III

Once married,

People slowly forget the value of their lover …

Failing to remember the quality of that person,

Surpassing any other …

Those late night bottomless calls,

Shrinking to short conversations …

Those passionate kisses,

Being switched with pecks of desperation …

Not being able to keep their hands away,

Reversing to not wanting to be touched …

Time casually steps over the lust,

As the want for one another becomes a must

And then there’s the trust

Insecurities rise and linger …

What was once a sure no-brainer,

Is now a tough decision on exactly where to put the finger …

And the one in the middle is soon elected most useful …

More than the one securing the ring …

The only octagon that matters,

Is the nonstop battle of power between the fading queen and king …

The same hand which once touched the heart,

Now prefers every nerve around it …

Where the eyes once saw every beautiful trait,

Now only notices every cancerous threat which surrounds it …

Disastrous blows to the sockets,

During debates,

Leaves one unable to see …

How amazing a LOVE-filled marriage could really & truly be …

Where unconditional LOVE is the Alpha & Omega,

There can be no end …

The happiness which charges you,

From the outlet of that wonderful human being,

Is the only source for which your attention should afford to spend …

Although the advice of another is much appreciated,

Careful of which banks you solicit to lend …

Fairytales are not just in the books & movies,

True LOVE knows not pretend …

Hold the LOVE of your life up high,

Most High,

So that the universe has a valid address,

Of which abundant gifts of LOVE & joy it can successfully send & bless.
