BeLove BeLoved ~ Poem

BeLove BeLoved by Joe Reid Kirby III

Love is like a firearm,

Only dangerous when it isn’t handled carefully …

It is not to be tampered with …

Must be kept clean & stored away safely,

To fire off in only the right moments,

When needed …

I’ve witnessed the biggest problems down on their knees,

Surrendering to a little one’s belief in the arms in their sleeves …

They’ve begged & they’ve pleaded,

But are problems really needed?

Hold your fire soldier …

We have to get this one figured out …

Backs against the wooden wall,

Must die,

Or learn to dig deep & break through …

It is only LOVE that is true …

No not that one that lied to you …

True LOVE is fearless,

Face your realities tearless,

Because you make them …

Or maybe you’re a little like me,

And you break them …

I’ve been faked so many times,

You can take them …

No I’m not mad,

My heart is too big to ever hate them …

But I do like to pretend that I ate them …

Left me feeling pretty full of shit …

And that trip to the toilet was one of those close ones that you’d never forget …

I feel sorry for those though whom have never been hit …

Never felt what hot steel feels like in the chest …

Those little things will lay any tall ego to rest …

One hopes that you’re never struck by such a conspicuous wound …

It’s one thing to hurt alone,

But not where everybody can see …

Unless it’s written in your romantic novels,

Or sung in your sensual songs …

Or being featured on the screen bigger than the TV in your home …

Accept only what you’re worth …

With every death comes a birth …

And you were one of them.
